Get ready for 2017!

Get ready for 2017!

The scoring program supports more than just the FIG/GCG stream. Other streams that do not calculate the scores like FIG includes Aesthetic Group Gymnastics, Special O, Alberta’s interclub and interclub. The table below summarizes all the differences. (The cell for FIG/GCG, the E-T panel says 5/ded. This means the system supports submission of 5 scores but all the scores that are entered must represent DEDUCTIONS. The system will apply the appropriate calculations to arrive at the total for the event)

Potential # of scores submitted Calculation done by system
Stream Type D1 D2 Artistic / E-A Execution / E-T ExecCalcType DiffCalcType
FIG/GCG 1 1 1 5 10-(EA+ET) D1+D2
SO 4 0 0 4 ET D1
AGG 4 0 4 4 Creative:(10-ET)/2 D1
ABIC 4 0 4 0 NoExec D1
IC 4 4 4 4 10-(EA+ET) D1

Score display shows the scores AFTER applying the calculation rules at the panel level, i.e. Difficulties, Artistic and Execution. Component scores/deductions can only be seen via Apparatus Rank Report.

To facilitate the switching of views from one panel type to another, a view controller has been created and can be invoked via Ctrl-Shift-V. This can be docked alongside the top of the spreadsheet if you have to switch often.

The mail-merge ready judging chits are available via the Tools section on the right hand side.

Do be careful and apply ‘sanity check’ when you receive the first set of scores or when you switch from one stream to another.

Live scores will be updated in the very near future.

Good luck everyone!

NET versus DEDUCTIONS

The biggest change for 2017 for the scorer is that both the Difficulty and Execution panels are broken down into 2 sub-panels each – D1 (body) and D2 (apparatus) for Difficulties and E-A (artistic) and E-T (technical) for Execution.

  • For Difficulty scores, the judges submit the final score from their specific perspective.
  • For FIG/GCG streams, for judges within within the Execution sub-panels, judges only submit DEDUCTION score and NOT NET/FINAL score. The scorer will enter the submitted score as DEDUCTIONS (NOT the final score) as is. The final Execution score for FIG/GCG is automatically calculated as “10 minus (E-Artistic deductions + E-Technical deductions)”. To arrive at a score of zero initially for each athletes, the deductions are set to 10 to arrive at to zero (Max of 10 for panel minus 10 points of deductions to arrive at zero).
Please note that for Special Olympics, for the execution score, the judges will still submit the net/final score.
Special provisions in the next version will handle AGG creative routines such that the submitted deductions will be netted from 10 and then divided by 2.

A sample of the apparatus sheet as follows (click to expand). Note that each panel is of a different color (cannot be changed at this time) and columns where DEDUCTIONS are to be entered has the word “DED” and net score has the title as “NET”.

A sample of the report as follows (click to expand). Note that the breakdown of the panel shows the scores submitted by judges prior to the net and/or division.

View Control

The apparatus sheet is where all the scores are stored. In the past, not everyone knows how to easily switch between views easier for initial setup, data entry, check score summaries versus report needed by head judge. The View-Control can be brought up by hitting Ctrl-Shift-V and docked on top. It can help you quickly switch from one view to another based on stream (radio buttons) and intention (buttons). If for some reason there is a need that is not met, simply do hide/unhide of columns, the view-control simply makes things easier and will not be a show-stopper even if it is not working.

Yet to complete

As before, mail merge to pre-printed forms (e.g. judging chits) by rotation order is supported. I will be adding merge capability to the GCG set of standard chits in the very near future.

It is very early in the season and more fine-tuning will occur in the next few months. For example, the score display as well as the interface to Live Score are yet to be updated. Do report any bugs or problems you encounter.
